INVOLVING WOMEN IN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Smallholder farmers account for 80% of agricultural production in sub-Saharan Africa.  Furthermore, women contribute to a higher share of the agricultural labour force. What is more, rural women face many constraints such as right unequalled rights as men do. They are also overwhelmed by domestic obligation and farm duties such as planting, weeding and harvesting produce in addition to family food preparations, fetching water and gathering firewood.  It is challenging for women to attain the same produce outcome as men, due to their constrained access to productive resources such as land, credit, agricultural advisory services and innovations. therefore, it is most imperative to enable women's capacities in meeting their personal and household needs. The success of women will in general put more in their homes and families, providing their families with more nutritious food and keeping them soundly healthy.
